Sault Ste. Marie artist Kate (Kathleen) Marshall was an elementary school teacher for more than thirty-one years, most of them in the Sault Area School System. Now retired, she is attracting a good bit of notice in the art world.
She took an Honorable Mention in the Olive Craig Gallery’s juried show, Waterworks, in 2003; displayed in Alberta House with husband Tom Marshall and Tedi Selke in Between Friends in 2003; in Anything Goes in 2004; in Studies in Black and White in 2005; in her one-woman show, A Change of Place, in June 2006; in Bridges in 2007; and in last month’s Blues exhibit.
Elsewhere she was in Every Picture Tells a Story in the McCormick Arts Center in McCormick South Carolina in 2006, in Northern Exposure at the William Bonifas Arts Center in Escanaba in 2007, and at the LSSU Library with husband Tom in January and February of this year. Last year, with husband Tom, she took the Olive Craig Best of Show Award in the Sault Summer Arts Festival.
She is a member of the Olive Craig Gallery Board and of the Michigan Watercolor Society.
May is a good month to feature Kate, as she loves to garden and to travel and these interests are amply reflected in her paintings. She has a light and breezy touch, admirably suited to the watercolor medium and captures the essence of a bloom. See her work online at www.marshallartstudio.net and in Alberta House.
