June 2020

June 2020 Virtual Area Show. In This Together.... For the Love of Art!

IN CASE YOU MISSED OUR JUNE SHOW...

Every year artists of Sault Ste. Marie look forward to submitting to our yearly show. Whether juried entry or open invite, they get the chance to network and share their work with others, helping to build our visual arts community. During the COVID interruption the Olive M. Craig Gallery (responsible for scheduling at the Alberta House), decided to create a purely virtual show, in an effort to maintain safety in these uncertain times. They encouraged stifled artists during this pandemic to share their work with the creative community. There was no jury, entry fee, or best of show, just the joy of seeing and sharing what has been created in our studios/living rooms in this time of COVID claustrophobia.

The Olive M. Craig Gallery wanted to remind our neighbors that we are all in this together providing support, peaceful connection, and inspiration... for the love of art.

March 2020

2020 K-12 Student Show

Although Alberta House Art Center had to close during March, we invite you to tour the Sault & Area K through 12 Student Exhibition virtually.

See a slideshow on Flickr at (click the icon shown above to start the slideshow) or the album on Facebook (easy to share with friends)!

From the March 2020 Alberta House News: "This has got to be the feel good exhibition of the year! The work of the advanced students in the upper grades is always impressive; the work of the elementary school students not only bright and colorful but filled with the sly humor and energetic verve of kids. The gallery crew goes all out for this one, taking on the task of matting every single piece of student work, thus taking a huge load off the already overworked teachers.

"At the time of this writing the participating schools and teachers included Anne Beaulieu for Sault Area High School, Barb Rogers and Teresa Ridley for JKL Bahweting, Michelle Breen for St. Mary’s School, Darcy Schreiber for the Pickford School, Deanna LaLonde for Brimley Schools, Richard Guimond for Rudyard Schools, and Emalee Veler for Lake Superior Academy. Parents of children not in these schools could bring in their child’s painting on their own."
