The Sault Area Arts Council (SAAC) is a nonprofit, 501(c)(3) organization whose mission is to promote and make the Visual Arts readily accessible to locals and tourists of the Sault Ste. Marie area and the Eastern Upper Peninsula. It operates with volunteer labor and is funded by private donations. SAAC publishes a monthly newsletter that promotes local arts events, resources, and opportunities.
The Sault Area Art Center is owned and operated by SAAC and is under the direction of, and staffed by, volunteer board members. Located in the Alberta house, it contains the Sault Area Arts Council office, the Olive M. Craig Gallery, and a juried shop which displays and sells one-of-a-kind paintings and crafts by local artists.
