We’re being optimistic and scheduling the 48th Sault Summer Arts Festival for the first Tuesday in August, August 2nd 2022, again on West Portage between Osborn and Ashmun, just south of the Soo Locks in downtown Sault Ste. Marie, MI. We are assuming it will be safe to have it by then with masks and social distancing and a majority of the population being vaccinated, if not, all application money will be refunded. We’ve cancelled the last two years in a row in the hopes to keep our community safe, so this year we’re brimming with excitement to be able to have our community artists come out in force with their creativity.
The festival space fee is $100 for a 10 x 10′ space, with double spaces also available for $200. Sault Area Arts Council members of a year or more pay half that. Two exhibitors may share a space if both have been juried in. Jury is by digital image (best) or photograph, three for each category entered, with the exception of jewelry, which requires five. Multimedia artists will need a set of photographs for every category they expect to exhibit. The jury deadline is June 1.
The Sault Summer Arts Festival gives multiple awards donated by area businesses and professionals. The top four are the $300 Best of Show Award, the $150 Painting Award, the $150 Best of Crafts Award, and the $75 Judge’s Choice Award. $50 awards are given in Design, Fiber, Photography, Graphics, Wood, Jewelry, Glass, Metal, Pottery and Display.
